U.S. State Department Issues Alert on Hurricane SeasonPublished on: June 2, 2008

The State Department issued a Travel Alert to U.S. citizens concerning the Hurricane Season in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, the Caribbean, and the Gulf of Mexico. The official Atlantic Hurricane Season runs from June through November. The Travel Alert expires Nov. 30, 2008. According to the Alert, the National Weather Service officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predict a 65 percent chance that activity during the 2008 Atlantic Hurricane Season will be above normal this year, forecasting 12 to 16 named storms, with six to nine becoming hurricanes.
